3 Methods to Quickly Chill Wine
A hot summer day and chilled glass of J. Lohr white wine are made for each other. If you’ve forgotten to put the bottle into the fridge ahead of time, here are three quick and easy methods to chill your wine quickly and beat the heat!
Method 1: Submerge the Wine in Salted Ice Water
Water is a more efficient thermal conductor than air and will chill the bottle much more quickly than putting it in the freezer or refrigerator. Fill a container with ⅔ ice and ⅓ water and a couple tablespoons of kosher salt. Salt lowers the freezing point of water, which will help cool the bottle in record time.
Method 2: Pop Your Glass into the Fridge
Large glass bottles take a while to cool down. To cut the chilling time, pre-pour the wine into glasses and place them directly into the freezer or refrigerator.
Method 3: Wrap the Bottle
If you have a blast freezer or one that circulates the air well, wrapping the bottle with a wet kitchen towel helps. As the water evaporates due to strong air circulation, the bottle is chilled more quickly. However, if you have a crowded freezer and the refrigerated air does not move around much, Method 1 or 2 above will be more effective.
